Believed to have been derived from the Egyptian phrase for ‘reed fields’, the term Elysium was a section of the underworld in Greek Mythology. Also known as the Elysian Fields, it was the final resting place of the souls of the heroic and the virtuous.

This intricately detailed sculpture depicts the personification of an Egyptian soul’s journey. Having escaped from the confines of his sarcophagus, he is effortlessly pulled out of his tomb as he floats towards his new life.
